In an effort to amplify the local tourism of the Municipality of Asturias, the local government together with its Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and Tourism Department proudly launched the municipality's hidden underwater gem on April 19-21, 2024. Barangay San Roque of Asturias played as the host for the grand launching of their newest diving site, drawing diving enthusiasts and nature lovers alike from across the region.

Nestled in the clear waters of Tañon Strait Protected Seascape, the newly launched diving site promises immersive underwater experience through its vibrant marine ecosystem, kaleidoscopic coral reefs, and crystal clear-waters. 

The launching of the event held a variety of activity as locals, visitors, and invitees flocked to witness the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, signaling the official opening of the newest diving site named as San Roque Coral Garden. Dignitaries, including local government officials, tourism stakeholders, and environment enthusiasts, convened to celebrate this important milestone for the Municipality of Asturias, highlighting the potential of fortifying the local economy whilst promoting sustainable tourism practices.

During the welcoming remarks of Honorable Juvilito Sarlatan, barangay captain of San Roque, Asturias Cebu, stated that he is hopeful that the project will be successful and will prosper, bringing recognition and prosperity to their barangay. 

“Dako nako nga kalipay nga kita nagatapok karong adlawa para sa official na pag launch sa atong bag-ong tourist destination sa atong lungsod sa Asturias na gitawag natong San Roque Coral Garden. Hinaut pa unta nga kining proyektoha mahimong successful ug muluntad gayud hantod na mailado atong barangay ug mulambo pa. Kaanindot pamalandungon nga puhon ang atong barangay San Roque mo sikat ug mamahimong ilado na tourist destination sa atong lungsod sa Asturias” - stated Juvilito Sarlatan, San Roque, Asturias barangay captain.

As Asturias sets its aim on becoming one of the top destinations for divers and nature adventurers, the launching of this new diving site signals a promising chapter in the municipality's tourism. With the pristine waters and abundant marine biodiversity of Tañon Strait Protected Seascape, San Roque Coral Garden of Asturias reiterates their invitation for explorers to discover and experience the breathtaking wonders that lie beneath.
